Overview |
Merrimans provides the expertise from start to finish so that Brownfield land can be returned to beneficial use. We provide this on sites that we own as well as providing a service for our clients on a joint venture type of arrangement. We draw on our experience of over fifty years in material holding. |
Project Hawthorne, Long Eaton |
|
Merriman Limited purchased this site from Tubbs (UK) Limited under an unconditional contact, where we took the risk of obtaining planning permission for redevelopment. In this way a quick deal was done, which released funds for the restructuring of the client's business. In addition part of the site was retained for employment use and leased to Stretchline, a subsidiary business of Tubbs (UK) Limited. Phase I of this project has been completed, with two and a half acres of land, ready for construction of houses, sold to a major house builder. Project Deepcar, Stocksbridge near Sheffield |
Merriman Limited are working in a joint venture with Bloor Homes to remediate the former site of the Deepcar Brickworks. The total area affected by the works will be in excess of forty acres generating approximately twenty seven acres of residential land & three acres of employment land. The project is currently in the design phase with work scheduled to commence in Spring 2008. |
The main aspects of this remediation are
• the cleaning up of a burnt out tyre dump
• the excavation of underground structures & re profiling of land
• the construction of a main access road & 35 metre span bridge over the river Don
• the relocation of the Stocksbridge sewage treatment plant & remediation of the site
• the diversion of two 33 kV overhead power lines
• the implementation of new services to the site |
South Celynen, Wales |
|
The reclamation of the former South Celynen Colliery, in South Wales
involved the remediation of fifteen hectares of land to allow the
building of three hundred homes. Works included the construction of a roundabout on the A467, four
hundred metres of access road, a forty metre span bridge over the River
Ebbw, the installation of all main services and the treatment of 150,000
cubic metres of reinforced concrete, brickwork and colliery spoil. In
addition the three colliery shafts were capped with reinforced concrete to
comply with the Coal Authority Specification. All highway works were constructed to adoptable standards and all
site works were certified by a Geotechnical Engineer. |
Merriman Limited and Caerphilly Borough Council worked together in a joint venture to design and build a
new pedestrian access to Abercarn Primary School. The result was a great success that showed how a private Developer
and a local Authority can work together to achieve and even surpass their own expectations. A view of the footbridge can
be seen in the picture to the right

|
The Canal Site is located on the eastern side of the River Ebbw. It was previously
a steeply sloping piece of surplus land with no access and no obvious development
potential. Using cost effective modern civil engineering methods, Merriman Limited
have made it suitable for the construction of fifty apartments for first time buyers.
Land owned by Caerphilly Borough Council, that was previously of little value, was
opened up for development to create a cash boost towards the cost of providing local
public services. |
Brighton Avenue, Syston |
|
The work at this 3182 sq metre site involves the demolition of an old
petrol station. The petrol forecourt, garages and hard standing areas were
all cleared, providing an opportunity to re-establish the site as a
residential one and blend it in with the surrounding area. The site was
cleared and rejuvenated, as can be seen in the picture to the right. |
Sandiacre Drive, Thurmaston |
|
The relocation of the Merriman headquarters to Cossington provided
an opportunity regenerate the original site on Sandiacre Drive in
Thurmaston. The site was cleared to a flat level, much like the site
at Syston, ready for development. As you can see from the pictures below
it took a lot of work, luckily we are not afraid of a bit of hard
graft. The picture on the right show how the site looked before it
was cleared. |
