Asfordby Storage and Distribution Centre

After initially winning the contract to demolish a fire damaged industrial warehouse at Asfordby near Melton Mowbray, Merriman pitched and won the business to re-build it.

Client: Asfordby Storage and Distribution Centre
Location: Melton Mowbray
Job brief: To demolish then rebuild fire damaged warehouse

When fire destroyed much of the Asfordby Storage and Distribution Centre warehouse one of the largest food storage facilities in the UK was rendered unuseable.

Merriman Remediation cleared the site – including thousands of melted cans of dog food – and all the distorted framework; then demolished the damaged building. This included asbestos removal. Just three months later, the site was ready for construction.

Enter Merriman Build. Working with civil and structural engineers, Merriman rebuilt the warehouse to include state-of-the-art sprinkler system. The contract was to reinstate the existing building that remained with a 135m x 50m new section from floor to roof.

Sixteen months later the building was completed. The end result? A vast, modern, robust warehouse with new racking, lighting, heating and sprinkler systems creating a safe and efficient storage environment.

What the client said: “I’m very happy with the work Merriman undertook. The demolition was carried out with consideration to the working surroundings and we’re really pleased with the new building which has been as well constructed as we expected with the experienced team at Merriman,” said Asfordby Storage and Distribution owner Michael Dolby.
