Excavating Roman Remains

Merriman has won a further specialist contract to work alongside Northamptonshire Archaeology (NA) on a new housing development.

The land, near Upton, to the west of Northampton, requires archaeological excavation before building can begin as part of planning permission conditions. Merriman has been tasked with carefully excavating four hectares of arable land, using expert methods to ensure accurate logging of features and artefacts, some of which date from 1st Century AD.

Merriman used similar techniques previously with NA on a site in Rutland to facilitate construction of an access road through a medieval settlement. The project required careful excavation to ensure items of historical interest could be recorded.

Merriman is a specialist in this type of work and welcomes any future enquiries of this or a related nature.
